Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryILA MABLE MEABRY Ila Mable Meabry passed away September 11, 2003 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Ila was born June 20, 1916, the eldest child of Vern (Smith) and Banting Rogers, on their farm in the R.M. of Riverside. She attended school at Harmony and high school at Goodlands, MB. On February 20, 1935, she married Wilfred Meabry and together they farmed in the Dunrea district until 1948. Following this, Wilfreds work took them to several different areas. After retirement they spent a few years in Ninette and in Killarney, returning to Winnipeg in 1984 where they resided until their deaths. Ila was employed at Eatons Department Store and the Canadian Red Cross while living in Brandon. When Wilfreds work took them to Winnipeg, the Red Cross transferred Ila and she worked there until her retirement. She and Wilifred enjoyed many winters in Weslaco, Texas. Ila was very active in all aspects of community life wherever she was living. She was a member of the United Church and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, also served as Worthy Matron. These were a very important part of her life. Ila enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, and entertaining family and friends. She was a gracious hostess. Ila was predeceased by her loving husband Wilfred 1989; her parents, 1981 and 1988; a brother Gordon 1929; and a nephew Alan Nixon 1973. She leaves to cherish her memory, two brothers, George of Vancouver, BC and Kenneth of Carman, MB; sister Eva and husband Howard Nixon of Margaret, MB; a very special cousin Blanche Miller of Winnipeg; as well as her nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service was held at Riverview Health Centre on September 12. Her funeral was in St. Marys Road United Church, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. The minister Rev. R. Wardell spoke of Ilas decision to life and said that her deep faith and her courage in dealing with her M.S. was and will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her. Her niece Jean Nixon; and nephew Gordon Rogers shared their memories of Aunt Ila. Pallbearers were her niece, and three nephews, Jean (Nixon) and Leo MacDonald of Regina, SK, Fred Rogers of Edmonton, AB; and Gordon Rogers of Vancouver, BC. Burial was in Garden of The Good Shepherd - Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
