REV. ULRIC (GEORGE JOHN) ELL, OFM Rev. Ulric (George John) Ell, OFM passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on September 18, 2003 at the age of 89. Born in Sedley, SK he entered the Franciscan Order in Quebec where he made his profession of vows on August 16, 1935. After completing seminary studies he returned to Regina, SK for his ordination to the priesthood, June 21, 1942. Fr. Ulric started his ministry as a teacher at St. Anthonys College in Edmonton before moving on to the ministry of his choice. He was much appreciated as pastor and formed many lasting friendships in Trail, BC, Lac Du Bonnet, MB, Edmonton, AB, Golden, BC, Vancouver, BC, and Winnipeg, MB. Fr. Ulric also gave some years to preaching missions in both British Columbia and California. He retired to Victoria in 1999. Predeceased by four brothers, Canasius, Andrew, Jack, John and three sisters, Clementine, Sr. Casimir, Sr. Eugenia, he leaves to mourn sister Em Seiferling, brothers, Peter Ell, Robert (Beth) Ell as well as his Franciscan brothers. His spirit will live in the hearts and minds of his many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his love of family and his ability to accept new challenges like building new churches and learning to ski in his later years. A celebration of life will be held at the Franciscan Friary chapel, 1076 Joan Cres., on Sunday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held September 22 at 12:10 at St. Andrews Cathedral, 740 View St., Victoria. Interment at the Franciscan Cemetery, Mount St. Francis, Cochrane, AB at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Franciscan Missions, St. Michaels Retreat, Box 220, Lumsden, SK S0G 3C0.
