WILSON After a short illness with cancer it is with deep sadness that our family announces the sudden but peaceful passing of our husband, father and Poppa, "Wayne" at the age of 62 years with his family by his side in the Victoria General Hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2003. Wayne leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife Diane; daughter Kendra (Kevin) son Cam (Ann-Lynn) and granddaughters, his sweethearts, Camryn, Kaila and Sydney; his mother Iris; brother Robert; sister Wendy (Victor and Jamie) mother-in-law Della Smith; in-laws Robert (Pat), Marilyn (Jack), Bonnie (Larry), David (Linda), Judy (Doug), Jim (Carmen), Lorraine (George), Glenda (Stan) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Robert Wilson and father-in-law Don Smith. Wayne was born on September 17, 1941. He grew up in East Kildonan. Wayne had a very successful forty years at Manitoba Telecom Services. His career started in Portage La Prairie, then on to Ottawa with his family and eventually settling in Winnipeg. Wayne took pride in being able to sit on many volunteer boards; Sport Manitoba, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and his most recent appointment as Chair of the Victoria General Hospital Board. Wayne was a former Kinsman, Rotarian and City Councillor with the City of Portage La Prairie. He enjoyed all sports but his favourite was golfing with his wife, Diane. Wayne also enjoyed yearly golf trips with Dave Slobodian, Bill Shelest as well as the Florida golf games with Tom Stefanson and friends. In accordance with Waynes wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Waynes life will be held on Tuesday, September 23 at 1:00 p.m. in Westminster United Church, Maryland at Westminster. The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Hayward, Dr. Alwin Jeyakumar, Dr. Ian Maxwell, the nurses in I.C.U. and the third floor staff at the Victoria General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Waynes memory to the Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
