Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICK HARRISON October 11, 1919 - September 21, 2003 Peacefully in his sleep Dad passed away at Luther Home on September 21. His struggle with Alzheimers has ended and he can now rest. Our thanks go out to the staff at Luther Home for the care and compassion they demonstrated for Dad during his years there. Dad was born on October 11, 1919 and lived all his life in the North End of Winnipeg. He married his childhood sweetheart Olga in 1941 and they had three sons, Fred, Doug and Jeff. Family was an important part of Dads life and he always looked forward to the picnics, birthdays and special occasions with our extended family. His greatest regret was that he and our mother were not able to enjoy their retirement due to her debilitating illness. After she became ill in 1984 he devoted all his energy to helping care for her until her death in 1997. Dad worked for the CPR at the Weston Shops for close to 40 years, retiring in 1980. He rarely missed a day of work and taught us the importance of a strong work ethic. He was also a Jack of All Trades by necessity and was always there when someone needed a helping hand. Dad was always on the go and very active. He loved sports and was involved in them throughout his life. He played on many teams dating back to old Stella Mission days, for St. Joes in the Catholic Mens Hockey League, and for Boston Clothing in the Industrial League. He coached Senior Womans baseball at both CUAC and CPAC, umpired in numerous baseball leagues and refereed hockey until well into his 60s - often with his buddy Stan Luzny. For more years than we can remember he was the timekeeper at Old EX arena, and he filled in his spare hours by keeping time and announcing for the West Kildonan North Stars. Dad had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. This became especially apparent when you went out with him because it seemed like he knew everyone and they all wanted to stop and chat. Even when he was in the nursing home people would come up to us and say they knew our father sometime in the past. Dad was predeceased by his brothers Ed and Mike, and by his sister Mary. He is survived by three sons, Fred, his wife Elaine, their daughters, Jill and Jennifer, Jennifers husband Geoff Ozarko and their children, Jenna and Cole; Doug, his wife Kathy and their daughters, Kate and Jessica; Jeff, his wife Jennifer and their daughters, Kelsey and Aimee; brothers and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews. We want to thank all the family and friends who took the time to visit with him over the past 4 years. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Pastor Don Engel officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his three sons, friend Stan Luzny and granddaughters, Jennifer, Jill, Kate and Jessica. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nicholass memory to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba. REST IN PEACE DAD CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
