EVARIST (EV) ROY Much loved husband, father, brother and grandfather, Evarist passed away September 21, 2003 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Evarist is survived by his wife of 50 years, Julie; his four children, Charlotte (Neill), Rod (Debbie), Bern (Susan) of Vancouver, Paul (Claudia) of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Chris, Evan, and Lauren Johnson of Winnipeg, Danielle and Charles Roy also of Winnipeg, Jonathan and David Roy of Vancouver, and Julie Alexandra Roy-Serrano of Ottawa. He is also survived by his sisters, Amelia Ward of Montreal, Anna Morton of Lindsay, ON, Yvonne Payne of Campbellton, NB, Jean (Norman) Giasson of Baie Comeau, QC; along with many nieces, nephews, and in-laws throughout Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his brothers, Tom and Paul and his sister Blanche Maguire. Evarist was born on March 26, 1917 to Charlotte Imhoff and Thomas Roy. He was raised and educated in Campbellton, NB. After joining the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, Evarist served his country as a Navigator based in England. He received his honourable discharge from the military in 1945. After returning to Canada, Ev worked for the Dominion Stores in Longueuil (Montreal), QC. From 1948-1955 he was employed with the Hudson Bay Retail Store in Winnipeg. He was then employed with Canada Safeway until his retirement in 1982. Ev was an active participant in the Catholic Church over the years. He was a founding member of St. John Brebeuf Parish and served on the SJB School Board for one term. Evarist was very involved with the Knights of Columbus, Council 5808, and attained the post of Grand Knight. He also served one term as State District Deputy with the Knights. After retirement, Evarist loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren, whom he took enormous pride in. He was thrilled by the recent birth of Julie Alexandra in Ottawa. He was also very active at home and in the community. Evarist was an avid, self-taught carpenter who loved working on projects around the house and yard. Many thanks to Fr. P. Moran, Dr. J. Prenovault and the staff of Victoria General Hospital, Fr. Roland Lanoie and the staff of the Palliative Care Ward, St. Boniface Hospital. Appreciation also goes out to the many caregivers for their compassion and encouragement during this difficult time. Special thanks to Mr. Vincent Petrachek, for his kind words and visits. Farewell, adieu, and adios Papa. We will miss you, always. Enjoy your peaceful rest and reward. Know that you leave a piece of yourself in our hearts. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place.
