WILLIAM ANDERSON
Date of Passing: Sep 21, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ANDERSON McGREGOR (BILL) September 1931 - September 2003 Bill passed away peacefully at Health Sciences Centre on September 21, 2003. Bill is survived by Donna, his loving wife of 48 years; son Bruce (Kimberly) daughter Kathleen (Dwain) grandchildren, Melissa, Kayla, Scott and Erin; brother Jim (Joyce) sisters-in-law, Elsie, Joan, Maureen; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his father William; mother Ida; and brothers, Alex, Bob and Tom. Bill grew up in the west end of the city where he achieved his education at Principle Sparling and Daniel MacIntyre schools. Throughout his life, Bill constructed houses and other buildings and was in the construction business until he was employed by the Y.M.C.A. as a manager in the maintenance and construction department. He left this position to be employed with the provincial government in the Department of Fitness, Recreation and Sports as a senior facilities consultant, retiring in 1988. In 1988, Bill received a new lease on life with a heart transplant. This gave him more quality time to spend with his family, grandchildren and many friends. He was so grateful for this gift of life, especially to the donor and his family. Bill had a wonderful sense of humour and was able to make many smile and laugh with his funny jokes and sayings. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to any that needed it, especially in the construction field. After he retired, he took up cooking as a hobby, where he excelled by putting his own personal touch to many of his wonderful dishes. Friends and people that knew Bill will remember him as "The Muffin Man", because occasionally he would show up with a few of them for all to enjoy. Bill enjoyed his morning coffees at the Sals on Ellice and at the Court of St. James where, when in better health, he could be found every morning. Bill was happiest when his family and friends were around him. All that knew and loved him will sadly miss Bill. The family would like to express their thanks to the Transplant Clinic Team, Dr. Jeffery, Dr. Rush, Dr. Karpinski, Dr. Lam, the nursing staff for their wonderful medical care through the years; to Dr. Les Uyllot, family physician and Dr. Hugh Smith, heart specialist for their compassion and care. Special thank you to the staff of 4D Wing for their loving care. To all our friends for their support, the car rides, the visits to the hospital, it was most appreciated. A family graveside service has taken place. Service of remembrance will be held on Friday, September 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Young United Church, 100-222 Furby St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bills memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
