Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE HAID (nee SILBERT) Peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Sharon Home / Simkin Centre at the age of 93. Rose was predeceased by her husband Phil; her sisters, Sarah, Esther and Annie and her brothers, Sam and Joe. She is survived by her brother Saul of Winnipeg; sister Connie of Florida and by her sons, Marshall (Elba) of Winnipeg, Sidney (Judy) of Chicago and Harry (Elspeth) of Winnipeg, as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born March 7, 1910 in Winnipeg, Rose lived her life with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and learning. Winner of the Award of Merit Key upon graduation from the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill. Rose nursed in Chicago and Winnipeg before putting her career on hold to raise her family. Rose was active in her community through her service to Hadassah-Wizo and to the Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood and through her continuous support of the Arts in the broader Winnipeg community. Rose recertified as an RN in Winnipeg in her late 50s in order to continue her career after her husbands passing. She also continued to study through informal study groups as well as by auditing University Classes well into her 80s. Her family extends sincere thanks to the caring staff at the Simkin Centre. A graveside service was held at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on Friday, September 26. Pallbearers were Phil Haid, Don Haid, Dieter Bruning Haid, Phil Apostle, Michael Silbert and Herb Liffman. Honorary pallbearers were Darcy Bruning Haid, Erin Haid, Lara Secord Haid, Sari Apostle, Elyssa Haid and Ben Haid. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
