Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE SMITH (nee DELL) On Monday, September 22, 2003, at Seven Regions Health Center, Olive Margaret Smith passed away at the age of 90 years. Olive, the eldest daughter of Fred and Margaret Dell, was born October 13, 1912 in the Hollywood District. On November 28, 1936, she married Lionel Smith of Langruth, MB. Olive and Lionel remained on the farm until Lionels passing in 1991, after which she moved into the Seniors Apartments in Langruth. In the fall of 1996, Olive became a resident of Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone where she enjoyed her remaining years. Olive found joy in the simple things of life - helping on the family farm, gardening, canning, quilting, scrap booking, and needlework to name but a few. Olives handwork will be appreciated for years to come in both her embroidery work on display at the Langruth School, and the quilts she made for each of her grandchildren. Olive enjoyed her family and community, being an active member of both the Royal Purple and the United Church. During her years at Third Crossing Manor, Olive could be found playing bingo, doing word searches, and most often enjoying the company of the staff and her fellow residents. Predeceased by her husband Lionel; four brothers, Leonard, Earl, Joe, and Arnold; and one sister, Mary. Olive leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Doreen (Bud) Oliver of Selkirk; three sons, Jim of Langruth, Sid (Linda) of Aurora, ON, and Don (Elaine) of Langruth; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Carol (Perry) Taylor, Evan and Alyssa; Jocelyn Oliver; Cory (friend Caroline) Smith; Eyvi (fiancee Leanne) Smith; Shelley (Greg) Boden, and Halayna; Greg Smith; and Karen Smith; two sisters, Alverna (Ken) Arksey of Langruth, Mildred (Ab) Armstrong of Portage la Prairie; and one brother-in-law, Raymond Page of Oakville, MB, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral service was held Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Langruth Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeri Bjornson from the United Church officiating. Mrs. Sharron Arksey presided at the organ. Honorary pallbearers were Sveina Johnson and Fina Lasson. Pallbearers were Kerry Arksey, Reggie Armstrong, David Egilson, Joey Johnson, Ted Jonasson, and Robert Thompson. Flower bearers were Mark Ingimundson, Raymond Smith, and Russell Carlson. Interment followed in the Lakeland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Langruth United Church or the Lakeland Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Seven Regions Health Center, Seven Oaks Hospital, and Third Crossing Manor for their care and support.
