LUPERIO (LOPENG) SONGALIA ACALA It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Luperio (Lopeng) Songalia Acala, born in the Philippines on November 11, 1932, at the age of 70. Tatay Lopeng will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 47 years Angelina (nee Ambito) his children in Canada; daughter Elsa (Rod Reyes) and sons, Rene (Susan), Arnel (Perlita) and Romel (Arlene), and daughters in the Philippines, Lynda (Alex Sevilla), Ester (Berting Nonato), Edna (Boyet Gemil) and Elvie (Jake Fallado). Also mourning is his sister Precy (Gerry Chartrand) in Canada and siblings in the Philippines, Leonida, Salvador and Marietta. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren from Canada: Rodney, Tracy, Abby, Rodeleen, Mark, Terrence, Suzanne, R.J., Lester and Jason; and from the Philippines; Jerroll, Jovie, Japyee, Jermine, Joice, Michelle, Alexis, Liezel, Dondon, Patrick, Philip, John Paul, Phoebie, Vanessa, Leslie, Louie and J.L. along with many more relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Pedro and Olympia (nee Songalia), and his brothers, Fortunato and Mario who were all from the Philippines. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, MICU, and the H4, D4 and D5 wards for all their help and assistance. Lamay will be held on Thursday, October 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. The funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Fr. Lucien Roy presiding. Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The pallbearers are Rodney, Randy, Mario, Gerry, Darwin and Elmo.
