JOSEPH NAWOLSKI December 22, 1909- September 24, 2003 On Wednesday, September 24, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer, a kind and wonderful man was taken peacefully by the angels, while his loving wife Sophie sat by his side. Grandpa we know you were tired but we were just not prepared to see you go - our main family foundation is now gone. We will need your spiritual direction to help us through this. Life without you there seems hard to imagine at this time - it just doesnt feel right - we are missing you so. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Clara; sister Mary; infant daughter Helen and son Wesley (William). Left to celebrate his life is his loving wife of 71 years Sophie; son Walter (Delene) daughter-in-law Bettyanne; grandchildren, Bev Ganchar (Gerald), Richard (Terry), Audrey (Scottie), Frances Kullman (Gary) and Tony; great-grandchildren, Lisa, Kori, Krista, Jenna, Barry, Dana, Crystal Stevens (Vernon), Shannon, Doug (Melissa), Steven and Holly and his great-great-grandchildren, Amber, Brooke and Nathan. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister Anne Baryski; brothers, Stan and John and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was born in Poland and came to Canada in 1913. He settled on the family homestead in the Lac Du Bonnet area and farmed most of his life. He married his soulmate Sophie on September 18, 1932 and they led a beautiful life on the farm. Life was simple then and every weekend would be spent playing cards and enjoying the company of family and friends. He loved being around people. They finally moved from the family farm into town. Once he moved into town he spent his days at the Senior Citizens Recreational Center and was always ready for a good game of pool. He also worked as a security guard for the local police detachment - he was happy to be among them. He loved music and was quite the fiddle player. He also sang in the choir at the Ukrainian Catholic Church he belonged to. Finally for health reasons and to be near his family he moved into Winnipeg. His wife, children and grandchildren were always his main concern. His kindness, generosity, warm smile and happy laugh will be dearly missed. We have been blessed to have known him, loved him and been loved by him. Grandpa you are now in Gods care and we are sure that Helen and Wesley will guide you in your Journey home for a welcome reunion. Until we all meet again, take care, we love you, its going to be all good - we just have to trust in God!! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0T1. The family wishes to express their thanks to Holy Family Nursing Home for their exceptional care during his stay there. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for the gentleness and love beyond any expectation that was given to our Grandfather by the angelic caregivers - you are truly "special" people. We also wish to thank those who have visited our grandparents and filled in their hours with stories and laughter. Big hug and kisses to Selma Demski - you have been a constant source of energy and strength for us throughout these past few weeks - thanks Mom. Prayers will be said on Sunday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m. from Russell Funeral Home, Beausejour, MB.
