VICTOR T. CARLSON Peacefully, on October 2, 2003, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, after a courageous battle with cancer, Victor passed away quietly with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Dora Carlson; brothers, Frank and Nels and sister Mildred Kornago. Victor will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Grace; children, Wendy (Steve) Mestrovic, Cindy (Wayne) Hourd, Wayne (Charlene) and Rob; grandchildren, Melissa, Mark, Mike, Kristin, Kaitlin, Kyla, Victor, Cassandra and Matthew and his cat, Shadow. He was born and raised in Lundar, MB. As a young man, he moved into Winnipeg with his family. After serving in the Armed Forces during the Second World War, Victor started his lifelong career in the trucking industry. He was full of humourous stories of the "characters" that he had worked with during his time at Lions Storage, Seaway Midwest and Livingston. In 1952, Victor married the love of his life, Grace. The four children came along within a seven-year span. He raised his family in a closely-knit neighbourhood in the Weston area. He could always be found helping with his kids activities, including driving truckloads of kids to hockey games or boy scout/girl guide outings. In 1993, after retirement, Victor and Grace sold their home in Weston and moved out to the Winnipeg Beach area to live on a permanent basis. It is here that he was able to continue with his love of repairing cars and attending auctions and yard sales. Over his lifetime, Victor had more vehicles (some in various states of disrepair) than even he could keep track of. He loved a good deal and the next good deal always seemed to be around the corner. The one thing that people will always remember about Victor, is his sense of humour. He loved to laugh. His laughter was infectious. It was impossible not to laugh along with him, even if one had no idea what they were laughing at or about. Victors unique way of looking at life will be missed. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m., at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 600 Minto St. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, with a reception at the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Norman Wilson, Whip Wilson, Gust Torgerson, Derek Vukovic, Mike Mestrovic and Mark Mestrovic. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Montoedi, the Palliative Care Team and all the caring staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
