CHRIS (KRISTINN) MARTIN Peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2003, Chris Martin passed away at the Concordia Hospital. Dad was born at Hnausa and grew up on the family farm at Arnes. He fished commercially on Lake Winnipeg with his brothers and had many fond remembrances of those days. In 1943 he joined the Armed Forces and married Bjorg at the end of the war in 1945. Dad came with the family to Winnipeg and worked at Modern Dairies until his retirement. A lifelong love of hunting was one of his greatest joys with his good friend Joe Conway. He was very proud to have hunted into his 80s. He always enjoyed a good joke and loved to tell of the time he shot two deer with one bullet and "thats how you save ammunition". It was always a treat spending time camping or going for a ride in the country or sharing a cup of tea with Dad. Chris was a good family man and supporter, always generous with his time and his love. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. Chris was predeceased by his wife, Bjorg on September 29, 1992; his parents, Antonus and Fridrika Martin; brothers, Siggi and Fred and two brothers in infancy; Sister-in-laws, Steina Martin, Margret Hjaltason, Pearl Mawhinney; brother-in-laws, John Hjaltason, Neil Mawhinney, and Ron Bissett; as well as grandson Parnell. His memory will be cherished by loving children, Thor (Karen), Clifford, Neil, Irene (Chuck) Thompson, Shelley (Collin) Shabaga and Martin Catagas. Grandchildren, Cindy (Korey), Chris, Joey, Jamie, Dillon, Travis, Jessie, Karmyn and Austin. He will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Dad is survived by his sister Snjolaug Peterson and sister-in-laws; Loa Martin and Grace Bissett. The family would like to thank Debbie Gibson for her great kindness through the years to Pops, the staff at Concordia Hospital for their help and kindness as well as the community home care workers for their care and compassion. Funeral service will be held, Wednesday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Interment to take place in the Garden of Everlasting Life at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Dad will be greatly missed and his memory will always be a cherished example for us to follow. Peace of Heavn on all descending with this stillness softly blending here abide - our thoughts ascending in a fervent prayer unite: from the pain of wounds relieve us from the dread of cold reprieve us - may the joyous sun receive us when the morning breaks - good night - all in peace await the radiant angel of the dawn - good night. by Guttormur J. Guttormsson Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
