DAVID STEWART SMALL June 5, 1913 - September 27, 2003 Peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2003 David, husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 90 years. David is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Rhoda; son Jim (Shaaron) Small; daughter Moira (George) Finefrock; grandchildren, Brant, Melinda, Sarah and David; sisters, May Topping and Margaret Surch. David was predeceased by his sister Jean Campbell. Born June 5, 1913 in Binscarth, MB, David grew up and was educated in East Kildonan. He attended Normal School and earned his degrees at the University of Manitoba. Davids professional career began as a school master at Cooks Creek, Maxwell Colony and Morse Place Schools. He was principal of Angus McKay School before moving to the Faculty of Education as a Professor of English Literature at the University of Manitoba. During his tenure at the Faculty of Education, David often organized and led the Summer Studies Abroad Program to England and Scotland. David served his country in the RCAF during the Second World War and following the war was a Staff Training Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs. David was a member of the Manitoba Teachers Society, Winnipeg Poetry Society, Manitoba Antique Association and King Edward Lodge. Our family extends a special thanks to Davids friends whose support, kindness, humour and conversation brought brightness to many of Davids days. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2 at All Saints Anglican Church (Osborne and Broadway) with reception to follow.
