PETER R. HILDEBRAND Peter succumbed peacefully to the effects of Parkinsons Disease at Vista Park Lodge on October 7, 2003 at the age of 87. Peter will be fondly remembered by Harvey (Grace), Irvine (Bonnie), Albert (Sandra) much loved grandchildren, Pam, Lori, Tricia, Lesley, Chris, Dean, Carole and Gina; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Henry (Selma) and sister Teen (Ben). Peter was predeceased by his loving wife Sarah of 54 years in August 1994 and son Norman in September 1992. Also brothers, Abe and Ed. Dad was born on a stormy day January 10, 1916 near Winkler. He married Sarah Braun on June 29, 1940 in Lowe Farm. Initially he farmed but later ran a family grocery store in Lowe Farm. There he was deeply involved in the community including being a School Trustee, Truant Officer and on Church Council. In 1958 Dad purchased the Altona Red & White store, which the family ran for almost 25 years. In his retirement years he was a Co-op Store Manager in Dominion City, a real estate salesman, and a business consultant for Indian Affairs. Dad learned about hard farm labour as a pre-teenager due to his fathers early death. Dad was 11 years old and the oldest of five children. The limited formal education he received never stopped him from attaining great achievements. He always enjoyed telling stories which he could do so well because of his sharp mind for detail and recall, which he retained right to the end. He was a highly principled man and always placed people ahead of material things. He truly lived the Biblical truth It is better to give than to receive. Dads nature was to live his Christian beliefs more than express them. His Church family was very dear to him. His grandchildren heard him reciting the Lords Prayer in his final hours. The family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated, sensitive and caring staff at Vista Park Lodge. Thank-you to his special friends, Henry Hildebrand and Ike Froese, who visited Dad so faithfully. Dad felt so blessed by his support from his spiritual family at Sterling Mennonite Fellowship. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Sterling Mennonite Fellowship, 1008 Dakota St., Winnipeg. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m., 6 kms. East of Altona, Eigengrund Cemetery. Viewing will be held Friday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Rd.
