HUGHES With deep sadness we announce that Art Hughes passed away on September 27, 2003, at Riverview Health Centre, surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Pat; parents, Reg and Rena; children, Jeffrey (Irene), David (Kleo) Dan (Terine), Lisa (Chris), their mother Diane; stepson Kent (Kristin) grandchildren, Kaethe, Nikolas, Karl, Marina; special cousins, Linda (Frank), Joanne (Tony) and all his extended family and friends. Art was born October 12, 1940 in Winnipeg. He worked for the City of Winnipeg for 37 years, retiring from the Finance Department in 1995. Art also worked for many years as a Music Man with Gary Robertson Music. An avid sportsman, Art enjoyed the fellowship and competition of curling, most recently at Grain Exchange and with the T-Liners. He coached minor football and hockey for many years in Transcona. Art enjoyed being with young people and many of his former players fondly remember him. Art volunteered with many groups and was very giving of his time. He loved to spend time in Lac Lu with his friends and family, and spent many happy hours fishing and boating. More recently he enjoyed time spent at Sandy Hook. Art had a tremendous zest for life and laughter and fondness for a joke. He dearly loved his family and valued his many friends. Thank you to the staff of CancerCare at St. Boniface Hospital and 3E at Riverview Health Centre, Drs. Daeninck and Garcia, and special thank you to Pat Trozzo. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit. The tide recedes but leaves behind Bright seashells in the sand. The sun goes down but gentle warmth Still lingers oer the land.
