JOHN (JACK) WILLIAM HODGE 1922 - 2003 Peacefully on September 30, 2003 at Grace Hospital, after a short but courageous fight with cancer, Jack passed away quietly with his family at his side. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Muriel; son Brian and daughter-in-law Barbara; daughter Linda and son-in-law Duncan; brother Allan; many nieces and nephews, and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Erin, Kellee, Michael and Ashleigh. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Ethel Hodge; son Bobby and siblings, Ella, Lila, Margaret, Esther, Vina, Alma, Norma, Harvey and Raymond. Jack was born and raised in Carlyle, SK. He was no stranger to hard work and provided a wonderful life and beautiful home for his family. After serving in the South Saskatchewan Regiment in the Second World War, Jack worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Following a move to Winnipeg in 1959, he worked in the lumber business at Winnipeg Supply, Monarch Lumber and Greenwood Forest Products. He then bought Dominion Investigation and Patrol in 1965, a company he worked hard to build until he retired in 1984. Jack enjoyed travel, from car trips with the family to winters in California and Hawaii. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the outdoors. He loved watching Michael play hockey and taking trips to casinos. Since moving to Colorado Estates in 1997, Jack enjoyed the company of their many new friends, especially coaching "Ladies Pool Night". Jack charmed all who knew him with his quick wit and sense of humour. Even through his illness, he quipped with the nurses to brighten their days. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Grace Hospital on 3 North and 4 West for the terrific care they gave Jack and the wonderful support and compassion they showed through this difficult time. Thanks also to Allan and Irene and our many friends for their help and support. At Jacks request cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave., with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermott Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E OV9. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
