ERWIN WIENS It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Erwin Wiens, aged 78 years, on the evening of September 30, 2003 at Concordia Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Annie Wiens (nee Kampen) son Werner and his wife Dorothey; son Arthur and his wife Sharon, and his two precious granddaughters, Leah and Laura. He was predeceased by his parents, Wilhelm and Helene Wiens; his sister Helen Martens; and granddaughter Lori. Erwin was born in Einlage, Ukraine on June 16, 1925 and as the Second World War drew to a close, the family fled initially to Neustadt, Germany. He was baptized as a Christian in the Mennonite faith in a refugee camp in Brauweiler, Germany in 1946. Eventually the family relocated to Paraguay in 1948, where he held various jobs. Then in 1953 they immigrated to Canada, settling in what would become his lifetime home of Winnipeg. In 1955 he married his beloved wife Annie with whom he spent the next 48 years. Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg, he acquired a job with the City of Winnipeg Transit Department where he worked for 35 years moving through the ranks of the scheduling department until his retirement in 1988. Even in his retirement he continued to work, utilizing his knowledge of five languages, taking great pleasure in his ability to help others. The family wishes to thank the dedicated, compassionate and hardworking doctors, nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital for their tireless efforts, and their tender, loving care. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay, at 10:30 a.m. The reception will be held immediately after the service in the church. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S7. Donation envelopes will be available at the service. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson-North of McIvor-338-0331
