Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE JAMES SMITH It is with great sorrow that the family of George Smith announces his passing on Friday, October 3, 2003, at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. George was born December 6, 1920, in Winnipeg, at the old Grace Hospital on Arlington Street. He lived on a farm at Foxwarren, MB, until 1926 when he moved to the Grassmere district, four miles west of Stonewall. Then, in November 1937 he moved to the Argyle district. George was in the army in the Second World War and came back and, with his brother Mac, started what is known as the Argyle Trucking Company. They sold the company and went on to work for the Manitoba Power Commission for 35 years which became Manitoba Hydro. Survived by his wife Mary, of 54 years; son Jim (Joyce), grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer; two daughters, Christine (Rudy), Magy; grandchildren, Jason and Sean; Phyllis (James) Marsch; grandchild Colin; brother Jack (Glenda) sister Doreen Bryant; brother-in-law Harry Burton; sister-in-law Audrey Smith; and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents George and Jessie Smith; and sister Margaret Burton; and brother Mac Smith. Friends may call from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Interment will follow in the Stonewall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3, or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Deer Lodge Centre and the 3rd floor Victoria General Hospital. You were always there when we needed you, No task was too great or small. With a loving heart and a willing mind, For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the times we shared. We only pray that when you left us, You knew how much we cared.
