SHERMAN SILVER We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Sherman Silver on Friday, October 3, 2003. Sherman is survived by his wife, Pearl (nee Brodsky) children, Darlene Johnson, Sharon Hoole, and Daryl (Jocelyn) Silver; grandchildren, Kent (Jane) Hoole, Sara Hoole, Reagan Silver, Graham Silver, Kristi (Jeff) Fecyk, Debbie (Ed) Biggemann, Bradley Johnson, Corey (Mandi) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jessie and Rachel Hoole, Klarissa and Quentin Fecyk, Rebecca, Daniel and Joseph Biggemann, and Jasmine Johnson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Sherman Silver; his brothers, George, Joe and Elmer Silver; and granddaughter Tara Hoole. Sherman was born in Gypsumville, Manitoba on December 26, 1916. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Second World War from 1941 until 1946. Sherman was employed by the Canadian National Railway for 41 years, retiring as a conductor in March of 1978. He was always a hard worker, providing all the love and care his family needed. He enjoyed many years of league bowling, earning numerous trophies. Sherman was a 24 year member of Elmhurst Golf Club; he loved to golf and once achieved a hole in one. Sherman enjoyed playing cards, especially Rumoli and cribbage, and spending time with his family, close friends and great neighbours. Sherman loved to play the 6/49 lottery and for many years enjoyed betting on horse racing at Assiniboia Downs. For a few years, he was the proud owner of a racehorse named Winkin Willie. He enjoyed having company and family over to visit and loved to hand out dog treats to Fizz. A memorial will be held on Wednesday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald Street R3L 0K6, or to the charity of your choice.
