JOSEPH WALTER ZALONDEK (ZOLONDEK) December 18, 1931 - October 4, 2003 Peacefully, with his family at his side, Joe passed away after a brief illness with cancer. Left to cherish many fond memories are his loving wife of 43 years Elsie; son Daryl; daughters, Cheryl, Angie and Kerri (Randy) Georgettes; grandchildren, Kalina, Ricky, Katrina Lynn and Amber; brother Stanley Zolondek; sisters, Jean Rogocki, Frances Bukoski, Violet (Eddie) Marek, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents Martin and Cecylia Zolondek and brother John. Joe was born in Garson, MB. At age 19 he moved to Winnipeg where he worked as an Operating Engineer for Dominion Bridge. In 1960, he married his wife Elsie. After 46 years, Joe retired and spent time with his family at the cabin at Grand Beach where he was known as Cowboy. He never lost his zest for life. Papa adored his grandchildren and spent numerous hours playing, colouring, and building couch forts with them. He enjoyed telling jokes, especially the ones that he made up. Thank you to his homecare worker Dorota and the doctors, nurses, and staff at the GD3 wing at Health Sciences Centre for their care, support, and compassion. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Garson, MB. Pallbearers are Jim Rogocki, Don Rogocki, Jess Smith, Lincoln Smith, Brett Smith and Tim Bondarenko.
