Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLYDIA SCHROEDER Lydia Schroeder passed away peacefully on October 4, 2003, having celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends on August 27. Predeceased by her husband Victor in 1969, and her son-in-law John Redekop. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Dagmar Redekop, son John (Heidi) Schroeder and daughter Hildegard (Art) Knopf, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother and oma, always including everyone in her prayers. The youngest of 11 children, she was born to Jacob and Susanna Toews on August 27, 1903 in Tamak, Crimea, South Russia. She married Victor J. Schroeder in 1922 and they immigrated to Canada in 1925. During those early years they lived in many different places in Manitoba until they settled in North Kildonan in 1936. Here her husband was minister of the North Kildonan Mennonite Church for 29 years. Mother was a loving and supportive wife who had a very strong faith. She was active in the church, as well as the Auxiliary of Bethania Care Home and Concordia Hospital. Always hospitable, she loved to cook and her meals were enjoyed by her children, grandchildren and whoever Dad brought home as a surprise guest. Mother spent the last four years of her life in Concordia Place. The family wishes to convey their heartfelt thanks to the staff for their loving care and compassion during Mothers stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Place, 1000 Molson St., Winnipeg, MB R2K 4L5, or a charity of your choice. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, at 10:30 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St. A reception will be held in the church after the funeral with interment to follow at the Elmwood Cemetery.
