Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH HUEBERT After a lengthy battle with Parkinsons our Mom, Elizabeth (Luise) Huebert was taken home peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour, on Monday, October 6, 2003. All her children were at her bedside. Her family was always very important to her. Mom was born to Heinrich and Susanna (Giesbrecht) Koop, on April 5, 1909 in the village of Troitskaya in the Ukraine. When she was still a little girl the family moved to the Crimea, her father thought it would be safer for them there. Her Mother died when Elizabeth was eight years old and her Father went into hiding. Mother lived with a number of different families, suffered from lack of food, until her brother Peter took her to Tschongrow when she was fifteen. Here she met and married our Father Nickolai Huebert in 1928. She was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1929 they tried to immigrate to Canada, they had two daughters and a son, when her husband was incarcerated and sent to Siberia in 1937. Her youngest daughter Agnes was born after dad was taken, so she had to struggle to keep the family alive. In the summer of 1941, the Russians wanted to deport us to Siberia, but God led differently. We came to Tiege in the Ukraine, which was under German occupation. From there the family immigrated to Poland and during the war fled to northern Germany. She was able to find her brother Peter, who sponsored the family to come to Canada in December 1947. God had granted her wish. She had obtained her freedom here in Canada. Here she enjoyed doing handiwork, when the grandchildren were small she sewed them clothes from remnants. She joined the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. Here she was active in the Ladies Fellowship and decorating the church with flowers. In 1978 she joined the McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church. She is predeceased by her parents; all her siblings; two great-granddaughters and her husband Nickolai, although she never knew when he actually died. She is survived by her daughter Mary (John) Klassen; daughter Louise Gerig; son Nick (Tamara) Huebert and Agnes (Henry) Koop; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She leaves us the legacy of thankfulness to God. The family would like to express a big thank you to the staff on 2 South for the compassionate care they provided for mom in the years she was at Donwood. The funeral will take place on Friday, October 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave. If friends so wish, donations may be made to Donwood Manor Personal Care Home, 165 Donwood Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2G 2H9.
