NORMAN FREDERICK MILLER January 17, 1913 - October 6, 2003 Peacefully, at Oakview Place Personal Care Home on October 6, 2003, Norman passed away. Norman was predeceased by his wife Dorothy; his parents, John and Alice; his brothers, Albert (Ab) and George and sister Dorothy Skyhar. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Bella and Margaret Mattila; brothers, John and Leonard; daughter Sharon and son Jerry; as well as his six grandchildren, Karie, Kevin and Keith Burchill; also Jesse, Jennifer and Jason Miller and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Ketchum and Julieana Miller. Norm was born in Teulon, MB and lived with his parents, helping look after the family farm until entering the airforce in 1941 and being honourably discharged in 1946. He spent some time working in northern Manitoba in the mines before finally getting married and buying the family home on Simcoe St. in 1951 where he developed his own construction company and invested into rental homes and an apartment block. He had strong beliefs in honesty and hard work and tried to be friendly with anyone he came in contact with and since he had an interest in carpentry and handyman type work was always busy whether on his own projects or those of family, friends or neighbours. He also attended the closest United Church services in the area. Norm would only slow down at the age of retirement, and built himself a dream cottage in Sandy Hook near a golf course, then learned to play the game himself. He always enjoyed to curl in the winter months and enjoyed travelling by car to various destinations with family. He was a loyal and devoted husband and father as was proven when his wife took ill, and whenever there was a family crisis. A memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapel on Broadway on Friday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakview Extendicare Personal Care Home for their kindness and support in caring for Norm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Normans memory by those who wish, to the Alzheimer Society at 10-20 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C-4G2.
