Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE BLUMENTHAL (MYERS) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Granny on September 30, 2003, at the age of 101 years. Gert was predeceased by her husband Lou Blumenthal; daughter Audrey Levy; sisters, Rhoda Ross and Ida Miller; and her daughter-in-law Molly Myers. She is survived by her son Barry Myers; her son-in-law Sheldon Levy; her grandchildren, Randy Schwartz, Denny Hornstein (Mel), Jerry Shrom (David), Alan Levy (Sylvia), Martin Levy (Donna) and Darryl Levy (Shauna) and her great-grandchildren, Jory Schwartz, Rory Hornstein (Ian), David Hornstein, Lainey, Yael, and Saul Shrom, Dalia, Aviva, William, and Megan Levy; as well as Lous children and grandchildren - the Pearl Family. Gert also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. Born in New York in 1902, Gert lived in many cities throughout her long life, making close friends in each one. Her strength, determination and fabulous sense of humour guided her through challenging times. She celebrated life, never with regrets, always looking forward. Her constant high energy, affection, good humour and enthusiasm for everything and everyone around her were infectious. She travelled the world with her beloved Lou, never an observer but an active participant. She never met a cruise ship she didnt like, and a deck of cards that didnt have her as a winner. Teaching each of her grandchildren the fine art of winning at cards as a metaphor for winning at life, Gertrude had a thirst for fun and adventure and encouraged everyone around her to experience life and not just live it. As matriarch of the family Gert ensured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew that she had great expectations of all. She set a strong example of how to live a happy and fulfilled life. The many Granny stories will be cherished by all who knew her as sweet memories of a life lived to the fullest. Funeral services were held on October 1, 2003, at Congregation Etz Chayim, Rabbi Henry Balser officiating. Pallbearers were Darryl Levy, Alan Levy, Martin Levy, Benji Ross, Shae Greenfield, Murray Greenfield and Jory Greenfield. The family extends our heartfelt thanks to Gerts companion, Nellie Maliwanag, for her devotion and friendship in the last 14 months and to the Sharon Home for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sharon Home would be greatly appreciated. May Her Memory Forever Be A Blessing.
