ZYGMUND PETER KAMINSKI Peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 2, 2003, at St. Pauls Personal Care Home in Dauphin, MB, Peter Kaminski rejoined his Creator in heaven. Born October 10, 1907, he died one week before his 96th birthday. Peter was born in Brandon, MB and after farming briefly in Rorketon moved 12 miles north east of Dauphin in the Ripon District where he farmed all his life. He married Rita Hubert on July 7, 1949, and together they farmed until retiring in 1979. Together they raised seven children. Peter served on the Board of Trustees of the Ripon School District for several years and took his turn serving as chair of the Board. He was a deeply spiritual person drawing his values from his faith, which he actively lived out through daily prayer and as a member of St. Viators Roman Catholic Parish. He is a charter member and honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. Peter loved to play and could often be seen organizing activities for children of all ages at Ripon School picnics or his own children. He also enjoyed the neighborhood card parties and the many drop-by visitors at the farm. With Peter, one could always count on a good debate about politics or current events. If you needed to add life to a social event you could always count on him for a laugh as he loved to joke and tease, or to get the dancing started as he loved to polka or waltz with his spouse, his daughters, or anyone willing to take a turn on the floor. Peter was predeceased by his father Anthony and mother Elizabeth; siblings, Helen, Bernice, Stanley, Frank, Edmund, Joseph, Tony and infant sister. He has one surviving sister Mary Boris (Tony) of Dauphin. He is also survived by his spouse Rita of Dauphin; and children, Cynthia Shumski (Victor) of Winnipeg; Lorraine Toews (Jack Koshey) of Dauphin; Barb Kaminski (Bill Enns) of Stony Mountain; Grant Kaminski (Lynnette) of Sherwood Park, AB; Linda Zazuliak (Mike) of Dauphin; Enid Kaminski of Winnipeg; Philip Kaminski (Brenda) of Stonewall, MB. He has fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Greg Kaminski (nephew), Eddie Kaminski (nephew), Richard Borys (nephew), Doug Bertnick (nephew), Jack Koshey (friend) and Bob Harrison (neighbour). Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Cote, Stan Yaskowich, Cecile Nakoneshny, Walter Nakoneshny, Harry Anderson, and John DeWarle Jr. and many relatives and friends. Funeral celebrations were offered on Monday, October 6 beginning with Rosary at 6:30 p.m. conducted by the Knights of Columbus, followed by prayers at 7:00 p.m. Resurrection Liturgy was celebrated Tuesday, October 7, at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Mark Tarrant officiating at St. Viators Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. The family wishes to thank caregivers of St. Pauls Care Home, the Knights for serving as an Honorary Guard at the funeral and members of the St. Viators Parish for their support. Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Peter may be made to St. Pauls Personal Care Home. Funeral arrangements by Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Home.
