Date of Passing: Oct 17, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA BLAHITKA (nee GANCZAR) On October 17, 2003 our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Anna was called home at the age of 97. Anna was born in Plymouth, PA on April 19, 1906. Baba, as she was affectionately known by all, witnessed many changes in her lifetime and adapted readily to any challenge set before her. She worked hard on the family farm in the Dauphin area until they moved to Winnipeg in 1960. She joined the workforce shortly after and began her new career as head cook in a restaurant. She also worked at the Perogy House for a number of years. Baba was very proud of the work she did and the friends and respect she acquired there were a testament to her work ethics and generous, caring nature. Babas greatest pleasure was taking the bus to Selkirk or Brandon to visit or babysit her grandchildren. Anna leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Ernie (Louise) and Stanley (Martha) 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; her sister Jean Campbell and special nephew Lorne Harrison (Cathy). She was predeceased by her husband Alex, son Archie, daughter-in-law Stella and grandsons, Tim, Mark and David Blahitka. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski on Tuesday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, MB. Interment will follow the lunch in the Holy Ghost Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for their care and concern. Special thanks and deep gratitude to Dr. Demsas and the staff at Betel Home in Selkirk. Baba had many special angels watching over her at Betel, especially her dear friend Carol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Betel Home Foundation (Selkirk), 212 Manchester Ave., Selkirk. "God did not forget you here Baba - he did come to take you home" Gilbarts Funeral Chapel, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
