DORIS MARIE MUZYKA (nee NEW) May 9, 1924 - October 16, 2003 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother Doris Marie Muzyka (New) on October 16, 2003 at her residence with her six children, her sister and granddaughter at her side. Doris is survived by her four daughters, Gloria (Sam) Kostelnyk of Winnipegosis, MB, Marlene (Robert) Wuskynyk of Dallas, MB, Carol (Doug) Suzanski and Pam (Louis) Sanche both of Winnipeg; two sons, Marvin (Winnie) Muzyka and Barry Muzyka both of Winnipeg; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sister Joyce Rawluk of Winnipeg and brother John New of Thunder Bay, ON, and her beloved dog and companion "Happy" who made her very happy. She was predeceased by her husband Martin Muzyka in August 1969; parents, Arthur and Marie New; and brothers, Charles, Foster and Lawrence. Born on May 9, 1924 at Gull Lake, SK - the youngest of six children. Doris attended school in Hazlet, SK. She left for Fort William, ON at the age of 15 years to work. During the war she worked as a "riveter" on the Spitfire airplane at Canada Car where she met and fell in love with our dad, Martin. Later they purchased a hotel at St. Martin, MB. In 1958 they sold the business and relocated to Peguis Reserve where Dad was principal of the Peguis Central School. Mom worked as the head dietitian at Fisher River Hospital and taught home economics at Peguis Central School. Later in 1967 she became the home economic instructor for the Department of Indian Affairs, which entailed travelling to northern Manitoba. Later she worked as a homemaker specialist for the Province of Manitoba. In 1972 Mom purchased and operated a guest home for seniors in Winnipeg. Upon retiring she moved to Kelowna, BC she operated a successful hobby/business of a variety of crafts for which she received much recognition across western Canada. She held many successful craft shows. In 1993 she returned to Winnipeg to be near her children, she continued to be active in her crafts until her passing. She was a tremendous seamstress - she could make anything for anybody at anytime out of anything! At Moms request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St. Vital Rd. with the Rev. Canon Bob Webster officiating. Special thanks to St. Boniface Hospital staff especially Dr. Tobar, Dr. Ciric and nurses, Jennifer and Janice K.
