VIOLET LAVALLEE (nee MOWATT) With heartfelt sorrow the family announces the passing of our dear mother, grannie, nannie, great-grannie, sister, auntie and great-auntie at age 78, with her family by her side on October 17, 2003 at the Selkirk General Hospital. Violet was born February 26, 1925 in Robertsons Bay, Norway House. She met and married her true love George on August 19, 1948 after a two week courtship. They raised their family across Northern Manitoba. Settled in Selkirk in 1959 and were married 40 years until his passing in 1989. Mom enjoyed entertaining family and friends with her humourous stories and songs, bingo, knitting, going to the mall for tea and meeting her friends. She worked at Booth Fisheries for several years, also the Dinette Restaurant. In her later years her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to mourn her passing are daughters, Vivian (Eilert) of Selkirk, Lillian of Portage la Prairie; sons, Bruce (Christine) of St. Andrews, Douglas (Barbara) of Selkirk; brother Herbert (Gladys) Mowatt of Edmonton; sister Freda (George) Disbrowe of Selkirk; sisters-in-law, Nancy Mowatt, Sarah Cameron, Rose Molnar, Lillian Fenk, Mary Lavallee; grandchildren, Billy, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Jennette, Jamie, Dyana, April, Dean, Tracy, Christopher, Robert; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alexander and Nolan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends will also miss her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St. in Selkirk. A private family interment of ashes will take place prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Lavallee, Billy Whiteway, John Oig, Oliver Monkman, Charlie Disbrowe and Shawn Stephenson. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16 The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Association. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
