ELEANOR ELSIE JANKE (nee KLETKE) On October 19, 2003 at the Morris General Hospital, Eleanor Janke, aged 78, widow of Albert Janke, passed away. She is survived by her children, Donna (Rick Melia), Brenda (Clark Purves) and Ron (Chris) grandchildren, Caitlin, Alex, Laura, Sean, Sabrina, Adam, Kamryn and Eric, Erin, Abby; mother Mathilda Kletke; sisters, Doris Thorsteinson and Alice (Tom) Jones; brother Ed (Lillian) Kletke; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Louise Janke, Wilf and Aileen Janke, Don and Thelma Alexander, Ruth Murray, Steve and Lil Trappitt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Albert earlier in the year; her father Henry Kletke; brother Morley Kletke; brother-in law Baldwin Thorsteinson; brothers-and-sister-in-law, Gus and Ethel Recksiedler and Jack Murray; and an infant son and daughter. Eleanor was born on June 5, 1921. She grew up on a farm in the Brunkild area. After high school, she attended business college in Winnipeg and worked in Winnipeg as a stenographer until her marriage to Albert on October 21, 1949. Eleanor and Albert farmed in the Sperling and Morris areas. They also ran their own fertilizer business, Janke Agro. Eleanor held jobs at the Morris General Hospital kitchen and Murrays General Store. In later years, she was secretary for the Morris Manor. Eleanor volunteered for the Red Cross for many years. She taught sewing for the 4-H Club. She was a member of the Morris Lioness. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Valley Agricultural Society home crafts and the Red River Valley Lodge. She had also been active in her church. Her faith was a source of comfort throughout her life. In their retirement years, Albert and Eleanor spent time travelling to "Polkafest" dances where they made many friends. Eleanor always had time for family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand. Eleanor loved having her family around her. Her grandchildren were a special source of joy for her. Her children wish to thank Dr. Fraser, the nurses and staff at the Morris General Hospital for their care and compassion. Thanks also to family and friends for their prayers and support during the past months. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Morris United Church, corner of Lucinda and Ottawa, in Morris.
