ARTHUR VOGT November 11, 1929- October 18, 2003 Arthur M. Vogt of Steinbach passed away on October 18, 2003, at Bethesda Place in Steinbach. Art was predeceased by his parents, Peter A. and Susan J. Vogt; and his brother Roy. He is survived by his brothers, Ernie (Kathy), Erich (Barbara), Peter (Linda) and John Vogt; and by many loving nieces and nephews. Art was a lifelong resident of Steinbach. He made it his business to know as many people in the community as he could, as well as their family ties and any stories about them he found memorable or amusing. After completing as much school as he was able to, Art worked in his fathers grocery store and then at Penner Foods. For many years he sold lottery tickets around Steinbach and from his booth in the Economy Mall. Art had a lifelong love of music and sports. He was a curler in his youth and later an enthusiastic spectator and volunteer at the Steinbach curling rink, the local hockey arena and baseball diamonds. He excelled at the game of cribbage. He loved to spend an afternoon or evening exchanging jokes and stories over a long game of cards. Life was not always easy for Art, but he made the best of it without complaining. He had a wonderful sense of humour and an infectious, hearty laugh. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital and Bethesda Place for their patience and understanding, and the medical staff of the Steinbach Medical Clinic. Also, special thanks to Rev. Larry Hirst and Mrs. Lorraine Friesen for the care they provided Art in recent years, and to Chris and John Neufeld for their outstanding support. Thank you, as well, to Wes Keating, Betty-Ann Barkman, Jason Siemens and the many people of Steinbach who cared for and visited Art and considered him their friend. He loved all of you. A celebration of Arts life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, at Grace Mennonite Church, 430 3rd Street, Steinbach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arts memory to Bethesda Foundation Inc., Box 939, Steinbach, MB R0A 2A0. Arrangements entrusted to: Birchwood Funeral Chapel 150 Penfeld Dr.; Steinbach, MB 1-888-454-1030 or 1-204-346-1030
