MARIE ROSE "GERMAINE" CHARTRAND With the greatest sorrow, the family announces the peaceful passing of Germaine Chartrand (nee Lavallee) at the age of 85 years, on Monday, October 20, 2003, at the Hunter Memorial Hospital, Teulon, MB. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Blanche Buors, Irene (Dave) Rafuse, Gerald (Precy), Maurice (Lynda), Dennis, Roy (Rita) and Larry (Gale) as well as her grandchildren, Mona Szabo; Darin and Audra Rafuse; Mario, Aaron, Delia, Darryl, Roy Jr., Rhonda and Leah Chartrand; and great-grandchildren, Everie, Justin and Travis Szabo; Ashlee and Nicholas Rafuse; and Ashleigh Chartrand. Germaine will be sadly missed by her brother-in-law Dave Chartrand (Tina) her sister Georgeline Lockart; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Germaine was predeceased by her husband Harvey in 1981; her daughter Lorraine in 2002; and her four brothers and one sister. Born in St. Laurent, MB, on January 7, 1918, she married Harvey in 1937 and resided on the family farm near Inwood, MB. In recent years Germaine resided in Teulon at the Goodwin Lodge Nursing Home. Germaine was a kind and selfless wife and mother, deriving much joy in seeing her children grow to adulthood and make lives for themselves. Her greatest achievement and pride was raising a family of eight children with encouragement, love and guidance. Mom enjoyed gardening, sewing and bingo. She was fluent in French and English, which fueled her passion for reading in both languages. She lived life as a devout Catholic, which gave strength in times of need, and her faith provided her with great comfort in the final days. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the MacKenzies Funeral Chapel in Teulon. A funeral service in celebration of Germaines life will be held on Thursday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in Teulon with Father Guy Lavallee and Father Gerald Langevin officiating. Interment will follow at the Inwood Roman Catholic Cemetery. Germaines pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Aaron, Mario, Roy Jr., Darryl (Chartrand) and great-grandchildren, Justin and Travis (Szabo). The family expresses appreciation to Germaines many caregivers for their diligence. We would especially like to thank our sisters Blanche and Irene for the love and devotion they returned to Mom through their tireless dedication. In friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6, or a charity of your choice. John Chapter 3: Verse 16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.
