ORMA EDNA BACKHOUSE Orma Edna Backhouse (nee McRorie) passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on October 21, 2003 at the age of 77 after a long fulfilling life. Orma, with her husband Gordon, raised their six children and supported and nurtured them as they raised her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her relationships with the families of her two brothers and one sister, and with the families of Gordons brothers and with her many friends. Family relationships, especially with children, were her source of joy and fulfilment. She contributed selflessly to the many communities in which she lived, including Portage la Prairie, St. James, Sanford, and Wanasing Beach. In particular, her leadership as a School Board Trustee and within the United Church exemplified her commitment to enriching the lives of others and the satisfaction she received in doing so. The family wishes to thank Deer Lodge Centre, with a special thank you to the staff at 4West for their care. Thank you also to the many friends and family who visited Orma there. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25 at Deer Lodge United Church. Following the service a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Church. Interment to follow at Sanford Cemetery at 4:30 p.m.. If friends and family so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the David Suzuki Foundation or the charity of their choice.
