MILDRED GORDEN CORDY The family announces the death of Milly Cordy on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home. Milly was born October 2, 1908 to James and Elizabeth Squair on the family farm in Reaburn, MB. She lived there until she moved to Winnipeg as a young woman. On November 7, 1936 Milly married Bill Cordy. Milly was predeceased by her husband Bill; her parents; nine sisters, Jean (Alex) Masson, Margaret (Andrew) Colquhoun, Mina (William) McKnight, Elsie (William) Round, Polly (Welly) Campbell, Georgina (George) Bailey, Nan (Hadley) McKinley, Elizabeth (Harry) Hood and Edith (William) Delbridge; and two brothers, Jim and Frank (Nancy). Surviving are her sister-in-law Irva Squair and many nieces and nephews. Milly had many happy memories of growing up as part of a large family. While there was hard work to do she often talked of laughter, practical jokes, and going to country dances. Milly, Edith, Jim and Frank, being the youngest of the family spent several years working together on the farm, forming strong bonds and memories that remained with her through the years. These special relationships have continued on into the next generation and her many nieces and nephews have fond memories of times spent with Aunty Milly and Uncle Bill. After moving to Winnipeg, regular trips back to the family farm started the tradition of spending Christmas, Easter and most Sundays with Jim and Irva and their children, Barbara and Diane. Milly and Bill, having no children of their own, always considered Barbara and Diane as their "kids." Barbara lived with them for several years while attending high school and working in Winnipeg before she was married and moved away. After Diane was married her two children, Cathy and Robert Grain were always looked upon as their grandchildren. Our lives have been enriched by the close relationships and the memories of the shared holidays and family occasions spent together. Milly worked for many years at Hollingsworth Ladies Wear. She was knowledgeable of the fashion industry and loved her work. Milly was very creative and for many years her sweaters, embroidered pictures and garments were family collectors items. She was a vivacious, vibrant lady who was full of fun and loved music, dancing and entertaining. Millys nieces and her sister-in-law Irva gathered on October 2, to celebrate her 95th birthday. Even though she was not well and had difficulty talking, there was still a spark of her old sense of humour. She was able to tell Sheila Preston, her niece who has visited her weekly in Tuxedo Villa, that she always made her laugh. The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for the care and attention that Milly received during the five years she was a resident there. A memorial service for Milly will be held on Saturday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to Tuxedo Villa, 2060 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 0N3.
