SID FIEN Sid Fien passed away on Friday, October 24, 2003 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Bessie; his brother Harry, and by Bella, his beloved wife for 49 years. Left to celebrate his memory are son Cy; daughter-in-law Tana; granddaughter Nora; sister Sari (Abe Palay) sister-in-law Sophie; and his nieces and nephews. Sid had a good life. He was devoted to his family. He enjoyed operating his businesses, most notably the Millionaire Drive-In, and his second career at Shell Canada. Throughout his life, he visited the sick and worked for charitable causes. For 50 years, he spent his Saturday afternoons visiting with polio patients at what is now the Riverview Health Centre. After Bellas death, Sid spent nine rewarding years working as a volunteer for the White Cross Guild of the Health Sciences Centre. He approached his volunteer work with the same commitment and work ethic as he had his businesses. In 1999, the Health Sciences Centre awarded him the prestigious Robert Crampton Memorial Award in recognition of his extraordinary service. In his final battle with colon cancer, his fierce determination never faltered; his dignity and graciousness remained undiminished. Thank you Danny, Jay, Michelle, Sherry and all his many friends and co-workers from the White Cross Guild and HSC who kept him company during his illness and also to the wonderful staff at Riverview. He was a positive influence on the lives of many people. He will be missed. Donations in Sids memory may be made to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS7-820 Sherbrook Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9 or to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, One Morley Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or to the charity of your choice.
