VERNA BAILEY (nee HNATIUK) 1932 - 2003 After a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease and cancer, it is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Verna on October 25, 2003 at the age of 71 years. Verna will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Don, her son Donald and daughter-in-law Alesia Gordienko, and her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Daniel Chaput. She is also survived by her brother Lawrence (Paulette) and numerous nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her mother Mary in 1999 and her father Mike in 1993. Verna was born on October 2, 1932 in St. Boniface. She grew up in the Lower Fort Garry area of Manitoba. She attended St. Marys Academy and later furthered her studies at Business College. She worked for various companies before she was married to Don in 1956. After raising her family, Verna returned to the work force with Office Overload. In 1984 she gained employment at the R.C.M.P., and she enjoyed working there until her retirement in 1997. She was a past member of the Holy Family Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary and a member of St. Nicholas Parish. Our Mom is unforgettable. Her attention to detail, her quick wit and sense of humour, her tough exterior and inner strength stood out to anyone who met her. Our Mom was someone who always stood up for her beliefs and principles. She was a beautiful, strong and independent person with a warm and gentle heart. She was artistic and musical. She enjoyed films, television, and, of course, shopping. She was also an extraordinary cook - a natural, who created many fantastic original recipes. Prayers will be held at the Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30 at the St. Nicholas Church, 737 Bannerman Ave., with Fr. Christopher Zajac OSBM officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main St. We wish to express our sincere thanks to: Dr. Geddes and Dr. McDowell, her cardiologists; Dr. Krepart and Dr. Lotocki of CancerCare; Dr. Louridas and Dr. Rusnak at the St. Boniface Hospital; Maureen Boyce at the Seven Oaks Day Hospital; the doctors and staff of the 5th floor at the Womens Hospital at the Health Sciences Centre; and, finally, to Dr. Garcia and the nurses and staff of 3 East at the Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mom, You were the thread of our family fabric We love you and miss you. You will be remembered in our thoughts and hearts forever. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
