DAVID McARTHUR MILLER, SR. 1912 - 2003 Peacefully, on Saturday, October 25, 2003, David Senior passed away at the cottage at Clearwater Bay, ON. David was born in Glasgow, Scotland, arriving in Canada at an early age and grew up in East Kildonan. Senior leaves to mourn his passing, daughter Heather (Peter) Cumming of Toronto; son David of Winnipeg; and grandchildren, Andrew, Caroline, David, Matthew (Beatrice van Dijk) Cumming, and David and Emily Miller; sister Isabel and Frank Pearson; and cousin Betty Wright. David was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Agnes (Nancy), his father Robert, mother Christine, brother Bob, sister Chrissie and grandson Peter Cumming Jr. Davids early life involved many sports. He was an original member of the Holly (snowshoe) Club and he enjoyed many years at the Winnipeg Canoe Club paddling and racing in Manitoba and Ontario. He was also active with the Wonders Rugby Club. David was employed in the insurance industry for most of his life. He began as a field man for London and Lancashire Insurance Company in1930 where he travelled Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North West Ontario. He then joined Dale and Company and spent 33 years, retiring as a senior vice president and member of the Board. David spent the balance of his years owning his own insurance agencies and companies. David was an active member in the Masonic Order; Khartum Shrine Temple, Gyro Club; Winnipeg Winter Club; Elmhurst Golf Club; St. Charles Country Club; Charter Member of Kiwanis Club, East Kildonan; and an active supporter of the Conservative Party in Manitoba. Besides his family, Davids main love in life was fishing, over the last 43 years at Lake of the Woods, and golf. He loved his golf games and spent hours practicing. Over the last 50 years, he spent his winters in Key Biscayne, FL, where he was joined by his family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edward J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. A private family interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Davids memory to a charity of your choice.
