Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE MARY LADOSKI (nee ORISKI) April 15, 1913 - October 26, 2003 Olive passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2003. She will be deeply missed by her loving son James Gordon and wife Trygvine; grandchildren, Eric (Anika), Wendy (Wolfgang), Colin and Heather (Michael) great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Michael and Kristen. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Stella Joba; nephews, Jim and Lawrence Romaniuk; nieces, Eleanor Kullberg and Lorraine Hercus. Olive was predeceased by her devoted loving husband James Stephen (2001) her parents, Julia (1991) and Nicolas (1942) step-father Fred Porayko (1973) granddaughter Tina (1961) brother-in-law Walter (1960s) and sister-in-law Emily (2000) and brother-in-law Gus (1967). Olive was born in Winnipeg, where she attended school and Business College. Olive loved music and was especially talented with the mandolin. As a young woman, she toured Canada with the Winnipeg Mandolin Orchestra, the oldest such orchestra in Canada and second oldest in North America. For several years, Olive worked as a Legal Secretary in a law office in Winnipeg. Olive and her husband and son moved to Vancouver for six years in the Forties, where she and her husband James owned and operated a General Store until 1950 when they returned to Manitoba. At that time, she managed the new Sandy Bar Hotel Restaurant in Riverton. Olive had a strong work ethic and also enjoyed cooking and embroidery work. She continued to enjoy music and sang her favourite English and Ukrainian songs until very recently. She deeply admired her son Jim and was very proud of him, his wife, their children and their accomplishments. Olive was always concerned about her family and she was very generous with her time as well as with gifts and delicious treats, which she would send with love to her grandchildren. Olive loved to read and be up to date on current affairs, and maintained an alert mind, sharp wit, and her dignity until her death at age 90. Special thanks to Dr. Dubberley and the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care during her surgery in September. Thanks also to Dr. Ramgoolam and the caring staff at the Misericordia Place where she lived since March, 2000. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Eric and Colin; Wolfgang Peppel; Michael Kolbuck; David Romaniuk and Lawrence Romaniuk. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. Pastor Brad Schollenberg is officiating.
