ANN STECY November 30, 1923- October 28, 2003 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wife and mother at the Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank. Ann leaves to mourn her loving husband of 54 years, Bill; her five children, Ron (Pat), Norm, Taras (Tracey) of Winnipeg, Verna (Maurice) of Thompson and Andrew (Linda) of St. Annes; her grandchildren, Jason and Natasha, Tyler and Chris, Cameron and Caitlyn, and Matthew and Sarah; her brothers, Steve (Jean), Fred (Luba), John (Iris) and Peter (Vivian) and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, John Kuzina (1967), her mother Anastazia (1972), her brother Michael in northern France (1944) and her dear sister Kay Chura (1981). Ann was born in the Ukraine and at age three with her Mom and siblings, joined her father on a homestead in Hazelridge. She lived a challenging frontier life caring for younger brothers and doing farm work. At 15, she began to support herself with housekeeping, cooking, waitressing and factory work. At 20, she worked, putting herself through hairdressing school, buying a shop and managing it until she met Bill and married in 1948. Ann and Bill farmed, always as equal partners on three consecutive farms, each one increasing in acreage. During this time they also raised five children. Ann was well-known for her cooking with family, relatives, as well as church and community. She was dedicated to her church and Ukrainian traditions and language, teaching their children and spending countless hours with her womens league at Immaculate Conception Church at Cooks Creek. Anns spirituality was deep and prayerful, with an intense influence on her daily life. She used her strong organizational and communication skills in their farm ventures, church and volunteer work and assisting her children with homes and families. Ann was truly dedicated to her family and grandchildren. She was a Home Care provider for over ten years. She and Bill enjoyed bingo and travelling to the United States, within Canada and to the Ukraine. Prayers will be said on Thursday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion St. with Rev. Fr. John Mostivsky presiding. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. We thank her family and friends for adding joy, pleasure and purpose to her life. Sincere gratitude to the caring and dedicated staff at her and Bills home at Kin Place and the staff of St. Boniface and Concordia Hospitals for their care over the years of Anns illnesses and miraculous recoveries. Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Donations in lieu of flowers to CANCERCARE Manitoba. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, 222-3241
