LEO VANDAL On Tuesday, October 28, 2003 Leo Vandal, aged 77, passed away at home peacefully. Leo was born on June 14, 1926 in Ste. Anne, MB and moved to St. Boniface. Leo is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Cecile (nee Carriere) and children, Ernie (Gwen), Raymonde (Paul), John (Val) and Denis (Lois). He was also cherished by his nine grandchildren, Jason, Jeff (Dana), Mailyne, Brian, Jolaine, Jordan, Ashley, Eric and Joshua. He is also survived by his sisters, Alida and Elda (Raymond) and his brother Lionel (Lea) and also his brothers-in-law, Jean Godard and Rodrigue Nault. Leo was predeceased by his daughter Jeannette in 1997; his grandson Robert in 1980, and his parents, Alphonse and Celestine; brother Leon and his sisters, Lorraine and Laurette. Leo will be fondly remembered for his love of his family, his sense of humour and his kindness to others. Leo enjoyed his fiddle music, especially "old tyme" French Canadian tunes. Last summer, he had the opportunity to attend the Canadian Old Tyme Fiddle Championships in Shelburne, ON. Leo was a skilled butcher and dedicated employee for 36 years at Swift Packers and then for 10 years at East West Packers until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Norwood Legion for many years. Prayers will take place at 9:00 p.m. Friday, October 31 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 rue DesMeurons. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m. from Precieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny St. Interment will take place at a later date at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
