LAWRENCE RUSSELL NEIL It is with a deep sense of loss that the family announces the passing of Lawrence Neil, peacefully in his sleep, on October 28, 2003, at Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. He will be sadly missed by his son Laurie and wife Jane; by his granddaughter Yvonne and husband Lorne Acheson; and by his grandson Loren Neil and wife Jodi. He also leaves behind his brother Keith and his wife Etna Christine. He was predeceased by his loving wife Edna Verona Neil in 1965; and by his older brother Vernon in January 2003. He will be greatly missed by his family and others who loved him. Born in Winnipeg, on March 26, 1917, Lawrence spent much of his life in Manitoba. Beyond being a devoted husband and father, his passion in life was his spiritual walk with our Lord, and he served as pastor at several Christian churches in Carman, Oakville, Rossburn, Steinbach, Gull Lake, as well as in Port Moody, BC. He also had a love of languages, and taught English, French and Latin at secondary schools in Winnipeg for many years. He returned to the University of Manitoba and obtained a graduate degree in Greek studies when in his sixties. He also made numerous trips to Israel, learning the Hebrew language through personal studies and interactions with friends in the Middle East. His family especially wishes to thank staff at the Calvary Place Personal Care home for the special care they provided for him over the past several years. The loving and respectful, Christian environment at Calvary Place contributed greatly to his peace and happiness during the last years of his life. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R6, or the University of Manitobas Anatomical Research Fund.
