DAVID (FRIDAY) GREENBERG Peacefully, on Friday, October 31, 2003 at the Grace Hospital, David "Friday" Greenberg passed away at the age of 91. David was predeceased in June of 2001 by his wife of 55 years Shirley. He is survived by his two adult sons Saul and Dan, their wives Brenda and Roslyn, his grandchildren Sarah, Jenna, Lisa and Paul, sisters-in-law Ruth Thompson and Bernice Fishman, long time friend Esther Ginpil and the many nieces and nephews who he greatly cared about. David was born on February 17, 1912 in Romania, the tenth of eleven children. He immigrated to Canada in 1920 after the first World War with his parents and sister. They made a home in Winnipeg where he spent the rest of his life. He was the last surviving member of his family. David was a devoted family man that had a passion for fitness and golf. He was a member of the YMHA most of his life and received a lifetime achievement award at the YMHAs sportsman dinner in 1999. He was a member of the Glendale Golf and Country Club where you could find him every weekday morning during the season. He prided himself in being in great physical condition, which is a testament to his longevity. The family wishes to thank all the staff of the Grace Hospital, 3rd Floor nursing unit for making his final days comfortable and peaceful. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with internment at the Shaarey Zedek cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Shiva will be observed at 525 Cordova St.
