Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCECILE CAROLINE SLOUGH (nee CAMPBELL) Cecile Caroline Slough died peacefully at Victoria General Hospital, on October 31, 2003 in her 95th year. Cecile is survived by her daughter Ellen Gabelmann of Victoria; son Dan; daughter-in-law Leslie Speirs; grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Kristy all of Winnipeg and sister Lillian Laframboise of Victoria; as well as many nieces and nephews. Cecile was predeceased by her husband Ray; brother Richard (Bud) sisters, Marie and Violet. Cecile was born on a ranch near Bridgeford, SK on November 4, 1908 moving at a young age to Assiniboia, SK where her family operated the Campbell Hotel. During the 1930s Cecile taught school in a number of small communities throughout Saskatchewan ending her teaching career as a school principal. In 1942 she married Ray Slough and for the next 55 years Ray and Cecile enjoyed a marriage based on mutual devotion, love and respect. Ray and Ceciles lives took them to Regina, Prince Albert and Winnipeg. After retirement Ray and Cecile divided their time between a summer cottage at Emma Lake, SK and Victoria, BC. In 1982 they settled permanently in Victoria. Throughout her life Cecile was an active volunteer and member of the United Church. Her faith sustained her during the difficult times following the death of her beloved husband in 1998. Ceciles life centered on her family, friends and community. Her husband, children and grandchildren were all nourished by Ceciles unconditional love and support. Cecile delighted in, and maintained a keen interest in the lives and accomplishments of Ellen, Don, Leslie, Matthew, Andrew and Kristy. Cecile radiated kindness and intelligence. Her gentleness, loyalty and optimism strengthened and inspired all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Thank you to Joan Cowan and Lillian Laframboise for their support and comfort. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Beckley Farm Lodge and the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their excellent care and kindness. A memorial service will be held at James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan St., Victoria, BC V8V 1S1 on November 3 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to James Bay United Church in Ceciles honour.
