RICHARD ALP It is with great sadness and indescribable grief that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Eric Alp (1948 - 2003), beloved husband of 34 years to Linda (nee Macvicar), loving father of Richard and Nadine, father-in-law of Colin and proud papa of Deidre and Lauren, brother of Darlene, son of Eric Alp. Papa was predeceased by his mother, Beryl Alp and sister-in-law, Debbie. He leaves to mourn a large extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Rick was born in Vancouver, BC. Growing up in a military family, Rick lived in most parts of Canada and Europe. Continuing the military family tradition, Rick joined the Air Force after graduating high school in Portage la Prairie. While taking his air navigation training in Winnipeg, Rick met and married the love of his life, Linda. Rick and Linda began their married life in Bagotville, Quebec, where Rick was commissioned to fly Voodoos. A skilled navigator, Rick was well respected and esteemed by his flight crew. While in Quebec, Linda and Rick were blessed with two children, Nadine and Richard. Rick loved his children more than life itself. Later in his military career, Rick was chosen to fly for the Royal Air Force in England, so the family went on yet another adventure overseas. Always up for a challenge, Rick decided to pursue a career as a stockbroker in 1980, where he excelled and was extremely successful. He began as a broker with Richardson Green Shields, and was quickly promoted to management. Highly sought after for his skills, Rick later worked for Pemberton Securities, Dean Witter Reynolds Canada, and ultimately Scotia McLeod, as a Vice President of Investments. Rick was always a professional. He displayed the utmost integrity in everything he did, and was well known and respected in the financial industry. Rick and Linda loved to travel. They loved Las Vegas, and winters in Hawaii, Palm Springs and Phoenix. Always a family man, Rick rarely went on a trip without his children in tow. Rick loved to play bridge and golf. In 1999, a new chapter began in Ricks life. His first grandchild, Deidre was born. Then in 2001, a second grandchild, Lauren arrived. Deidre and Lauren were papas princesses. He rarely went a day without seeing them. So for now, we will not say goodbye, we will say "goodnight papa" until we meet again. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, November 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715

  • Oct 5 2020 Am so saddened to learn of Rick’s death. As I said in subject line, I was a longtime member of the “list.” Reading what he wrote there taught me about Sinatra. His knowledge was vast. If there is a website where the list is preserved, My email is dukeweston@ymail.com Bless Rick. - Posted by: Michael Watson (Member of the Sinatra List for years. ) on: Oct 05, 2020
