FRANCES DIAMOND (PICKRELL) Frances Diamond passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2003, at the Health Sciences Centre. Frances was born on August 7, 1924 in Regina, SK, and was raised in Semans, SK. After completing her schooling, she served in the Womens Division of the RCAF. Frances came to Winnipeg in 1947, where she met her husband Lazar, whom she married May 6, 1951. She supported her husband in establishing his various business ventures in Winnipeg. On his passing, she took over management of Diamond Cold Storage Ltd. Throughout her life, she had an active involvement in Hadassah Wizo, serving as President from 1974 - 1976. She remained active in this organization, as well as Adult Leisure at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Frances was active in pursuing many hobbies and interests, most notably golfing and bridge. She was an enthusiastic member of Glendale Golf & Country Club, serving as president of Ladies Golf. She shared her love of music, dancing, and movies with her friends and family. She touched many people throughout her life and was a source of strength, courage and devotion to her many friends, family and community. All who knew her take great sorrow in her passing, but are blessed by the years she spent with us. Frances was predeceased by her parents, Lorna and Robert Pickrell of Semans, SK; her husband Lazar; and brothers-in-law, Harold Diamond and Maurice Kahane. She is survived by her children, Robert (Nancy), Brent (Dorothy), Jacqueline (Marshall) Diamond-Goldberg, and Cynthia (Bernie) Hornstein; and grandchildren, Alex and Marc Diamond, Daniel and Marley Diamond, Eli and Evan Diamond-Goldberg, and Lindsay and Noah Hornstein. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Helen Kahane and Estelle Diamond; nieces, nephews, and many family members in Saskatchewan and in Winnipeg. Funeral services were held November 3 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, officiated by Rabbi Alan Green and Cantor Anibal Mass. Active pallbearers were Robert Diamond, Brent Diamond, Bernie Hornstein, Marshall Diamond-Goldberg, Daniel Diamond, and Leonard Hornstein. Honorary pallbearers were Reuben Bellan, Marty Cohn, Percy Devins, Perry Diamond, Joe Gladstone, Itz Jacob, Tom Olenick, Maurice Rodin, and Murray Rosenberg. Frances family would like to express their deep gratitude to the nursing and medical staffs of Nursing Unit 3 North at the Grace Hospital, and GA4 at the HSC. Special thanks to Drs. Macek, Kasper, Krcek and Froelich, and to patient manager Shellie Anderson. In lieu of flowers, donations, in her name, may be made to Hadassim Children and Youth Village, 4C-725 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 0W4, (204) 942-8201. Shiva will be observed at 711 Ash St.
