ARTHUR J. BUHR September 14, 1908 - November 5, 2003 Art grew up in Morse, SK, the eldest of eight children. He is survived by three sisters, Alma McQuiggan, Louise Clarkson, and Eva Barrett; two brothers, Harold and Bob; a son Glen (Glenda) daughter Carole; six grandchildren, Pam (Gord Park), Glenn (Margaret Sweatman), Darren, Kevin (Laurie), Paul and Lisa Morawecki; and five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Erin, Steven, Nicholas, and Dorian Pshednovak. His brothers, Richard and Walter; and his wife Marion, in 1989, predeceased him. He taught in various Manitoba rural schools before the Second World War, where he served both in Canada and overseas in the R.C.A.F. For a short while after his discharge from the Armed Forces, he participated in an education program for returning servicemen to become qualified for university entrance. After a few years of teaching in the Winnipeg School District, he joined the staff of the Manitoba Technical Institute (later the Manitoba Institute of Technology and finally Red River Community College). He played a significant role in the formation of R.R.C.C. A street on campus bears his name. He spent three years under a special Manitoba Government program establishing a vocational education operation in Malaysia. In 1970 he retired from his position as Director of the Manitoba Community Colleges program - he said "because of his health - he still had it and intended to keep it!" After retirement and until about three years ago, he would be found (more often than at home) at the Charleswood Golf Club. He and Marion developed close and lasting friendships with many of Charleswoods members. He particularly treasured several years of companionship with his special friend, Billie Percy. In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated and there will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers to the family, a donation can be made in his name to The Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 204 - 825 Sherbrook, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5 or The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Manitoba, 4th floor, 141 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 0R3. His family would hope that those people whose lives he has touched would privately celebrate his life and their memory of him.
