JOHN CAMERON DENNEHY It is with sorrow that we announce the death of John Cameron Dennehy. John is predeceased by his daughter Jennifer and his father and mother. He leaves to remember him with love his son John Patrick; his nephews, Matthew and Daniel; his auntie Helen and his sister Barbara and his many dear and close friends. John graduated from the University of North Dakota and did post graduate studies at the University of Manitoba. He enjoyed years of involvement with the MUSTANG football club and was a huge promoter of Juvenile Sports. He began his career, working with the Manitoba Provincial Government and he went on to work with the Federal Government in Ottawa. His work took him into the development of several First Nation Projects. He began the native GROUP OF SEVEN which expanded to several native artists who took their work across North America and into Europe. Several projects he conceived, managed and saw through to their completion are a testimony to his intuitive, his strength and his devotion to what he believed in. Johns love of life and people is reflected in the love that has been returned to him by his friends in the past few weeks. He was a man who enjoyed every day and who wanted to share that joy with those around him. He wanted to see people happy! He was a fighter ... and he fought cancer for three years longer than the doctors predicted he had. His doctors and nurses would often talk about his remarkable strength, courage, dignity and humour in his battle. Never complaining, far from it he really took the joys of each day and thanked God for them. His family would like to thank Dr. Johnston and Dr. Heydey of Winnipeg, Dr. Jones of Hamilton and Dr. Beveridge of Kenora. These men and their caring staff took extra-fine care of John. We would also like to thank the staff of GD6 at the Health Sciences Centre for their loving care and straight forward guidance at the end of Johns life. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of his life by friends and loved ones at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Johns ashes will be spread on The Lake of the Woods by family members and his close friends, Doug Whaley, John Kilgour, Ted Cooke, Ed Martin, Gary Hastings, Ken Campbell and Ron Kabaluk. This is the place that he loved . . . (the Pickerel may now rest in peace). This is the place that reflects his spirit. John asked that no flowers or donations be made in his name. He said Instead take your family out for a nice dinner on me . . . and give them a big hug. We will miss him deeply. Tomorrow will mark the 23rd anniversary of John's daughter Jennifer Heather Dennehy. She was my best friend and I was looking for her obituary when I came across John's. Thank you for being a wonderful father to both JP and Jennifer (Yenni). You will be greatly missed. Sincerely, Shelley Holmstrom - Posted by: Shelley Holmstrom (Young) (Bjornsson) (Friend to his daughter) on: Aug 20, 2017

Hello, I just found this article about John. He was my supervisor at the Native Citizens Group, Department of the Secretary of State, in the mid-1970s. He introduced me to the "Indian Group of Seven" and encouraged me to purchase art by Eddy Cobiness. I remember him as a man very focused on his missions; very task oriented. It was a pleasure to know him. - Posted by: Gary Christopherson (Colleague) on: Mar 29, 2016
