MAUD MYRA SARAH SUTHERLAND MASSEY It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Maud Massey, on November 4, 2003 at the age of 75 years. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in February 1995; son Les in August 1985; parents, Rose and Colin Sutherland; sisters, Lil Wasnie and Gertie Massey; brothers, Bob and Lorne Sutherland; stepsisters, Agnes Sutherland and Mildred Barnson; and stepbrother Hector Sutherland. Maud leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Bob and wife Jane, Wayne (Dar) and wife Anna; and daughter Shawna and husband Bob Witko. She was a generous and devoted grandmother to her six precious grandchildren, Andrea and Kurtis, Danny and Troy, and Brett and Kandace. Maud is also survived by two sisters, Irene Sutherland and Dorothy Burzuik; sister-in-law Freda Sutherland; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Maud was born on June 1,1928 in Cloverdale, MB where she spent her younger years. Later her family moved to Selkirk where she met her true love, Jack, settled and raised her family. She became a member of the Selkirk Christ Church yet continued to support her childhood country church in Cloverdale. She began her work career at Eatons and later enjoyed many happy years at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Park and Gaynor Foods. With retirement not in her vocabulary Maud was thrilled to spend the last four years participating in her daughters business at Snak Shak Dairy Bar, where she loved greeting and serving the customers. Maud was a fun loving and dedicated employee who truly loved her work and her fellow co-workers. She was an inspiration to all through her infectious humour, zest for life, perseverance and reminder that "all is well and spared". Although family gatherings and evenings with friends were Mauds happiest times, she also had many interests during her lifetime, baking bread and bannock for her kids, gardening, bowling, paper tolle, travelling and more recently her "Over 60 Club" meetings at the Selkirk Legion. Ever the consummate shopper, Maud delighted in filling her childrens homes with wonderful treasures. Maud and Jacks greatest joy was making a truly special Christmas for their family, friends and relatives each year. Their caring and generous spirit will always be remembered and cherished by our family who will honour and continue this tradition. Maud was a unique individual always up on the news and world affairs and never afraid to offer her opinions. She was a people person who truly enjoyed others and appreciated any and all opportunities to visit. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 1:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, on Hwy. 9, south of Selkirk with Rev. John Holmen and Pastor David Saude officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Clements Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be Colin Sutherland, Rick Sutherland, Kyle Gauthier, Harold Wasnie, Len Panasky and Jim Witko. Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, please offer words of encouragement to those you love to quit smoking or make a donation in Mauds memory to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. The family wishes to thank Dr. Racette and the staff on the Medical Ward of the Selkirk General Hospital. Maud, we will miss you always and keep your cherished memory close to our hearts. We know that you are reunited with Jack and "together again". Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
