Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAMPBELL WILLIAM NEWMAN April 15, 1921 - November 4, 2003 In loving memory we announce with sadness the passing of our giving father, husband and grandfather, the morning of November 4 at Charleswood Care Centre, after a lengthy illness and quiet, noble struggle to recover over the past four years. Predeceased by his father, Charles Frederick; mother, Josephine Mary; and uncle, Robert Benjamin Code, he will be sadly missed and leaves to mourn after 56 years of marriage his loving wife Elizabeth; two daughters, Judith of Parksville, B.C. and two grandchildren, Ryan and Neil; Barbara (David) of Calgary and three grandchildren, Graham, Kevin, and Kimberly; son, Robert (Josephine) of Ottawa; and Dads pet German Shepherd, "Misty". Cam was above all a straightforward and moral man; he was a compassionate, caring, devoted and generous provider who always loved his family and close friends around him. "Straight thinking will make your foresight as good as your hindsight," he wrote in one of many diaries and notebooks he would keep updated daily, chronicling events and articulating moments of reflection with his own special brand of commentary. Dad had his special way of doing things and he remained a strong believer in honesty and unselfish acts, patience and determination, and devotion to ones duty in the face of adversity. Having lost his own father at age sixteen, he went to work to help support his widowed mother and faithfully attended to her needs throughout her life. That same devotion and provision of needs he also ensured for his wife and family, making sacrifices he truly felt would be giving of himself. Proud of his Scottish and Irish heritage, Cam had 33 years of dedicated service with Trans Canada Air Lines, now Air Canada, serving as Assistant Chief Planner at the Winnipeg Overhaul and Maintenance base, and later in Montreal at Dorval Maintenance. He also served 10 years with the City of Winnipeg, Neighbourhood Improvement Program and made numerous friends throughout the community, being so well-liked for his enthusiasm, camaraderie, sense of humour, and getting the job done right. A member of Khartum Shrine of Winnipeg and Masonic Lodge, Dad contributed to community and charitable service, especially at the annual Shrine Circus for children. The family tree is historically linked to Portage la Prairie and Delta Beach, MB, where he enjoyed many summers around the No. 4 East Beach cottage named the "Saints Retreat," with good neighbours, friends and cousins, especially Dr. Edgar Newman Cole and his wife Thelma, and their family, Lisa, Cathy, Laird and Dana, from No. 8. "Colescuttle." At any time, but particularly during November remembrance, Dad also had a special place in his heart for the valour of military men and women who served and gave their lives in wartime, falling bravely at Dieppe, Dunkirk, Vimy Ridge, Paschendale, and the beaches of Normandy. To be a soldier is an honourable and noble calling was his strong, yet sensitive belief. Funeral service was held Friday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel in Winnipeg and cremation followed. A private family service for interment of ashes is planned for Spring 2004 at Brookside Cemetery, returned to rest eternally with his mother and father. "You will always be with us Dad Although gone, never forgotten. Thank you for everything youve done To make life better for us all." THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
