JACOB J. WALL March 24, 1927 - November 4, 2003 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father, opa, brother, uncle and great friend, Jacob, after a short courageous battle with cancer on November 4, 2003 at the Riverview Health Centre. He is predeceased by his father Jacob and his mother Anna, a brother and sister who died in infancy and brother-in-law Dietrich Braun. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Adina, his wife of 46 years; sons, Vernon (Caroline) and James (Candis) daughter Betty Glesmann (George) and sisters, Elsie Braun and Louise Peters (Nick). Grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Melissa and Jacob, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dad was born in the Ukraine on March 24, 1927. He fled the Ukraine with his family for Germany in 1943. Separated from his family, he was taken into the army at the age of 16. In 1945, with the aid of the Mennonite Central Committee, he was reunited with his family in Holland. He and his family along with approximately 2,000 other refugees, boarded the ship Vollendam for Argentina in 1947. In 1948 they carved an existence out of the jungle in Paraguay and lived there until immigrating to Winnipeg in 1952. Here he married Adina Braun in 1957 and soon after, settled in West Kildonan where they raised their children and enjoyed many wonderful years with family and friends. The family moved to Valley Gardens in 1975, where Dad lived until his passing. Dad worked as a diesel mechanic at Supercrete/Lafarge for many years and spent 10 years at the Concordia Hospital before retiring in 1992. God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around him And whispered, "Come with Me". With tears-filled eyes we watched him Suffer and fade away. Although we loved him deeply, We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Palliative Care doctors and nurses and the staff of 3-East at the Riverview Health Centre. Service will be held at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St., Winnipeg, on Saturday, November 8 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2.
