SONYA (SOPHIE) TRUSS It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Sonya (Sophie) Truss beloved mother, grandmother, and Baba on November 4, 2003. Sonya was predeceased by her husband, Eddie, in 1987. She will be sadly missed by her children, Shirley (Dan), Rick (Maggie), Janet, John (Leslie) grandchildren, Sheri (Paul), Dan, Clint, Ryan, Kerrie, Evan, Bailey, Theresa; great-grandchildren, Allie, Katie; her sister Mary (John) many nieces and nephews and her very dear friends. Sonya was born in Winnipeg on March 4, 1921. She was a lifetime parishioner of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and she was one of the first members of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League of the BVM Parish. She was truly honoured to receive her 50 year pin. Since her retirement from Eatons, she has been an active member of the New Horizons Seniors Club. She always looked forward to family gatherings, especially her Christmas Eve dinners. She loved spending time with family members, playing cards, or doing crosswords. She loved watching baseball and football in the summer, and curling in the winter. She had a real flare for baking, cooking, pickling, and she blessed us all with her talents. She enjoyed travelling, playing bingo, and picking blueberries and mushrooms. These activities will continue to remind us of the enjoyable time spent with her. Mom was a caring, loving, and generous person. She always wished the best for everyone and often displayed her compassion for others through a special prayer. She touched the heart of everyone who knew her and showered us with all of her love. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8 at 10:45 a.m. at the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. with Rt. Reverend Oucharyk officiating. Interment to follow in the Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nick Doherty, Ron Russell, Carl Klarenback, Les Davis, Paul Betts, and Dan Skwarchuk. Honourary pallbearers are John Holub, George Palmer, and John Sawchuk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. A loving Grandma, tender and kind, what a beautiful memory you left behind God gave us a Grandma, And he tried to be fair, And when he gave us ours, We got more than our share. Although he took her back from us today, We are so grateful for the years, He let her stay. Her presence well miss, Her memory well treasure, Loving her always, Forgetting her never.
